Drawings > Rituals

My practice is based on the ritual of wandering. Whether isolated in the woods or deeply invested in a drawing, I allow myself to become lost in the process. I use photography and rendering from direct observation as methods to retrieve my subjects and bring them to my studio, where I combine them with imagined elements. Drawing in this manner is both a wandering and a search for stillness; a translation and distillation of place into an accumulation of marks. This ritual draws my subjects nearer through slow and meticulous contemplation, which is an act of devotion that creates spaces to get lost.
